Black Friday Cyber Monday 2026: Dates, Forecasts, and a Week-by-Week Shopify Plan

Black Friday Cyber Monday 2026 planning board with dates and Shopify store

Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, with Cyber Monday on November 30, Thanksgiving on November 26, and Small Business Saturday on November 28. Adobe forecasts a record $275.1 billion in US online spend for the season, up 6.7%. Five weeks out, the winning order of work is: offers and checkout tests first, speed and product feeds second, campaigns third, and a hard freeze by November 20.

This is the dated plan we would follow on our own store, built from this year's forecasts and from what actually changed on Shopify in October 2026. No filler, no idea lists: dates, numbers, and the order of work.

The numbers behind this season

  • Adobe forecasts $275.1 billion in US online spend for November and December, up 6.7%, with Cyber Week (Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday) at $47.5 billion, up 7.4%.
  • Black Friday is growing faster than Cyber Monday: $12.9 billion forecast, up 9.2%, versus $15.1 billion and 6.2% on Monday. Discount depth matters: Adobe sees average discounts near 14% in early November, 21% just before Thanksgiving, and 30% during Cyber Week.
  • October is already a sales month: $95.8 billion in US online spend, up 8%, driven by early events like Amazon's Prime Day in October. If your store waited for November to start promoting, you are late, and the fix is early-access offers, not panic.
  • Bain puts BFCM retail sales above $85 billion, up roughly 8.75%, with more than 90% of consumers planning to shop a major sales event. Buy now, pay later alone is forecast at $21.3 billion for the season.
  • Shopify merchants sold $14.6 billion over BFCM 2025, up 27%, peaking at $5.1 million per minute on Black Friday. The platform scales; the question is whether your storefront does.

What is different this year: agents at the table, and a scarier app supply chain

Two things separate BFCM 2026 from every previous season. First, AI agents are now real traffic: Shopify's holiday report says 65% of shoppers will use AI for at least one task, Salesforce expects agents to drive about 20% of holiday ecommerce traffic, and Google's Universal Cart plus AI Mode checkout went live in October. Our AI holiday readiness checklist covers the feed and catalog work; the short version is that your compare-at prices and product data now get read by machines, so they must be honest and complete before the sale, not during it.

Second, the October 2026 checkout hijack changed what "audit your apps" means. Between October 10 and 14, attackers used compromised third-party apps to redirect shoppers to fake checkouts, and the cleanup delisted 436 apps from the App Store. Before BFCM, list every app and storefront script you run, remove what you cannot justify, and freeze new installs by November 20. The same logic applies double to any "free" or nulled theme code: unreviewed storefront JavaScript is exactly how card skimmers live. See our honest answer on nulled themes if that hits close to home.

The week-by-week plan from today

  1. Oct 27 to Nov 1: set offers from order economics, not vibes. Decide discount depth per collection, set the floor price, and check Shopify's discount combination rules so stacks cannot bleed margin. Review who has admin access while you are in there.
  2. Oct 27 to Nov 1: run the app and script audit described above. Every extension you keep is code that runs on checkout week.
  3. Nov 2 to 8: test offers in Rollouts, which has supported discount experiments since October 2 (Basic plan for scheduling, Grow for compare experiments). Schedule your BFCM theme change in Rollouts too, with an automatic revert date after Cyber Monday.
  4. Nov 2 to 8: speed and conversion pass. Cut heavy apps, compress media, and mobile-test the checkout. Our CRO apps guide lists what actually moves conversion; a fast theme like Boost does the rest.
  5. Nov 9 to 15: place real test orders on phones and desktops for every offer, bundle, and gift-with-purchase. Write support macros for shipping cutoffs (Dec 17 and 18 for USPS), returns, and the new US return-shipping tax that started October 23.
  6. Nov 9 to 15: fix your product feeds and compare-at prices for AI channels; this is also the window to grow email and SMS lists for early access.
  7. Nov 16 to 22: build early-access flows for your list (Nov 24 to 25 works well) and a starts-in countdown from Nov 23. Freeze theme edits and app installs on Nov 20, then re-run the full checklist on the frozen store.
  8. Nov 26 to 30: run the sale. Watch checkout errors, stock, and ad spend daily; keep a written kill-switch plan for any app that misbehaves, because October proved misbehavior happens mid-season.
  9. Dec 1 to 7: returns and retention. The shoppers who arrive this week are the cheapest customers you will get all year; our guide to turning seasonal shoppers into loyal customers and the BFCM automation walkthrough cover the flows.

Frequently asked questions

When should my Black Friday sale start in 2026?

A common pattern: early access for your list on Nov 24 to 25, public sale from Thanksgiving (Nov 26) at 00:00 store time, ending Cyber Monday at 23:59. Starting earlier than your list window trains shoppers to wait and dilutes the event.

How late can I change my theme before BFCM?

Freeze by Nov 20. After that, use Rollouts to schedule anything cosmetic with an automatic revert, and keep a duplicate theme ready as rollback.

Do small stores really need AI agent preparation?

Yes, and it is cheap: honest compare-at prices, complete product attributes, review markup, and a Merchant Center feed. Agents repeat whatever your data says, so this work pays off in classic search too.

Is buy now, pay later worth enabling?

With $21.3 billion forecast in BNPL spend this season and higher average order values on installment plans, most stores benefit. Enable it before the freeze so it is tested, not bolted on.

What if I miss the freeze and something breaks on Black Friday?

Roll back to the frozen theme duplicate, disable the newest app first, and communicate plainly on the store banner. Shoppers forgive a posted delay faster than a broken checkout.

Five weeks is enough, if the order is right

BFCM 2026 is bigger, earlier, and more automated than any season before it: a record $275.1 billion online, agents reading your feeds, and an app supply chain that just proved it can bite. None of that requires genius in late November. It requires the boring order of operations done on time: offers locked this week, tests in early November, freeze on the 20th, and a store fast enough to convert the traffic you spent all year earning. Start today; the calendar above is the whole strategy.
