Shopify stores that want to improve interactivity and build credibility should consider adding product reviews to their stores.
Product reviews not only help build a reputation but also improve sales and conversions. According to 90% of online buyers, their buying decision is influenced by product reviews in one way or the other.
What positive feedback does is convince hesitant shoppers that your products are being tried and tested by other like-minded individuals and are worth buying.
Shopify stores dealing with beauty products and food can specifically benefit from product reviews as buyers look for other people’s experiences before they risk their physical appearance or health.
While product reviews on Shopify are a great way for buyers to see the real-life social proof of what other buyers think of your products and services, using this feature comes with its challenges.
In this post, we’ll be sharing a few valuable tips on adding and managing product reviews on your Shopify store. But before going further, let’s have a quick look at what is a product review and why you need to add them to your Shopify store for better conversions.
Did you know Debutify enables you to add the Product Reviews app directly on your product pages? The process is simple, and even a newbie without any coding knowledge can do that without hassle.
What Are Product Reviews?
Product reviews are the feedback or opinions of buyers for a particular product or service. Buyers leave these reviews once they complete the checkout process. Businesses dedicate a section on their website for testimonials to enable buyers to rate and review their products and services.
Why Having A Product Reviews Section In Your Shopify Store Is Crucial For Your Success?
Let’s suppose you want to buy a black dress for an upcoming event. The product you like to purchase is available at two ecommerce stores. One store includes an array of reviews for the product on their product page, while the other store has nothing. What would you do?
That goes without saying that you buy that dress from a store with positive reviews. Yes, you got that right. Product reviews build trust and help other buyers get a clear idea of what they can expect from a brand in terms of quality and service.
Remember, if you haven’t added a section for product reviews on your Shopify store, you’ll be missing out on a huge number of potential customers.
It Builds Trust And Goodwill
The first thing first-time visitors will notice on your website are reviews. A product having good feedback captures the customer’s attention immediately, and they feel more confident about their buying decision.
Take an example of Amazon here. The American dropshipping giant displays average product ratings on top of the page. The customer reviews are showcased at the bottom, though. The idea is to provide visitors a glimpse of an overall average rating before they scroll down and explore the reviews section.
Product reviews build trust and goodwill that also improves your CTR and conversions.
Another perk of having product reviews on the Shopify store is that it helps boost conversions. If you’re delivering up to your customer’s expectations, they would openly market your products by dropping positive feedback.
Provides Better Insights Into The Product
No matter how engaging and informative your product descriptions are, feedback from real-life customers will help your prospects have a clear understanding of product benefits and functionality.
Lets You Rectify The Issue With The Product
Product reviews also help Shopify store owners to identify and rectify the issue with the product. When many customers are pointing out the same issue, it is for you to look into it and get it fixed at your earliest.
Gives You User-Generated Content
User-generated-content (UGC) acts as an additional form of marketing for your ecommerce business. When people post reviews with their custom comments, images, and videos, it helps attract sales and also increase your website’s visibility in front of the search engines.
It Works As Social Evidence
Customer reviews act as social proof that enables other buyers to make their buying decision.
Reduces The Chances Of Returns
Product reviews build trust and help buyers decide the product quality. When you have multiple good reviews listed for a specific product, first-time buyers won’t create a fuss on little things (unless there is any defect, of course).
Helps Your Business Better Rank On Search Engines
The more product reviews you have on your Shopify store, the better your e-store will rank on search engines.
Better search engine visibility means more people would be able to see your store. Also, when they see positive reviews on your website, they’ll quickly make their buying decisions. As a result, your store’s conversions and sales will skyrocket in no time.
Improves Customer Satisfaction
Customers admire businesses that collect reviews and value their feedback. Here, the key is to take both positive customer feedback and negative feedback seriously. Be grateful if you get a positive response and quickly resolve an issue if you get a negative one.

Dealing With The Bad Reviews
Nobody likes negative reviews. But in all honesty, negative feedback is part of the customer feedback process. No business can keep every customer happy.
Do not take bad reviews personally. Many times a negative review is an outcome of things that are beyond your control.
You can keep your settings to the ‘Unpublish Review’ option so that you can read reviews before they get published on your website (We have already discussed how you can turn off the ‘Publish Review’ option in your app settings.
We’d suggest not trying to remove every negative review (unless you think someone is trying to spam). The best strategy is to talk to the customer and turn negative feedback into positive.
If you have resolved the issue with the buyer, you can consider the following options to get a review removed from your website.
You Can Delete It
If you have already talked to the buyer and resolved the issue without any conflict, you can simply get rid of the negative review (you don’t need to remove every negative review as it will look fabricated and visitors might feel that the other positive reviews on your website are not legitimate).
You Can Reply To The Review
You can also publicly respond to the review and explain what was done to resolve the issue. Make sure you keep your tone friendly and accomodating instead of rude or aggressive.
Request A Customer To Leave A Revised Review
Another effective way of removing a bad review from your store is by requesting a buyer to post an updated review. Your customer can either drop another review to update others with the situation or remove the previous one.
You can delete the review straightaway:
- If you think the review is fake
- If the review contains inappropriate language
- If it sounds like a personal attack on your online business
- If the reviewer has never bought anything from your store
Present-day buyers are more informed than ever before. They know that no business is perfect. Businesses that aim for a 5-star rating look less credible than businesses that have mixed reviews.
Now that you have successfully integrated a FREE Product Reviews App to your Shopify store, it’s time you can put in some real-time efforts to increase the number of reviews you’re having for your business.
For your convenience, we have added a bonus section highlighting some of our tried-and-tested ways of getting more reviews for your Shopify store.
Bonus Tips: How Do You Get More Reviews On Your Shopify Store?
Send The Request After The Order Is Fulfilled
The best time to get a review is right after the order is being fulfilled. No, we’re not talking about the completion of the checkout process. You must request a review when you have dispatched the product and know the recipient has received or used it.
If there are some orders on which you haven’t received a review yet, you can target those customers and send a request again.
Another effective way you can encourage your customers to share their genuine feedback is by offering something of value in return. For instance, you can offer a discount or a cashback offer to customers who are willing to share their reviews on your website.
